The Automotive Club at Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC), Berhampur serves as a vibrant and collaborative platform that fosters innovation, technical excellence, and real-world engineering exposure for students passionate about automotive systems and motorsports. The Automotive Club was established in 2014 and operating under the guidance of the Automobile Engineering Society, the club functions as an incubator for talent, encouraging interdisciplinary learning through project-based activities, competitive events, and technical workshops. It provides an environment where theory meets practice, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to the design, development, and performance analysis of vehicles. One of the club’s most significant strengths lies in its three dedicated student teams, each focused on distinct domains of motorsport engineering and regularly participating in national-level competitions:
The Mighty Matadores (TMM)
The Mighty Matadores (TMM) specialize in Go-Kart racing events such as the Indian Karting Race (IKR) and National Go Kart Championship (NGKC). The team focuses on designing lightweight, high-speed karts and competing in acceleration, braking, skidpad, and endurance events. Their projects emphasize chassis design, powertrain tuning, and driver safety systems.
Team Max Torque (TMT)
Team Max Torque represents PMEC in off-road racing events, most notably in BAJA SAEINDIA, Enduro Student India (ESI), and similar competitions. They engineer rugged all-terrain vehicles capable of enduring rough track conditions and participate in events like hill climbs, rock crawls, and endurance races. Their work highlights suspension design, drivetrain optimization, and off-road dynamics.
Team Xelarators (TX)
Team Xelarators is the institute’s premier team for Formula Student competitions, including Formula Bharat and FMAE FFS (Formula Green). The team focuses on building single-seater formula-style vehicles with an emphasis on aerodynamics, weight distribution, power-to-weight ratio, and race-oriented performance metrics.
Over the years, these teams have brought recognition to PMEC by qualifying for final rounds, receiving accolades for innovation and presentation, and competing alongside some of the best engineering colleges across India. Their participation in events such as Indian Karting Race, National Go Kart Championship, Enduro Student India, BAJA SAEINDIA, FMAE Baja, Formula Bharat, and FMAE Formula Electric has provided members with extensive exposure to industry standards, vehicle dynamics, project management, and teamwork under pressure.
In addition to racing competitions, the Automotive Club organizes technical seminars, CAD design workshops, engine teardown sessions, simulation-based design tutorials, and industry guest lectures to enhance the skill sets of students beyond conventional coursework. The club has become a launchpad for aspiring automotive engineers at PMEC, equipping them with the technical acumen, creativity, and teamwork required to succeed in the automotive and motorsport industries.
