SETUP OF VIRTUAL ENGINEERING DESIGN AND INNOVATION CENTRE AT PMEC, BERHAMPUR

The Government of Odisha have planned to setup Centre of Excellence (CoE) in different

Government Engineering Colleges to train the students, enhance the employability skill of

the students and make them ready for industry 4.0. On 08th of October, 2021 the MoA

signing ceremony was held in world Skill Centre, Bhubaneswar in virtual presence of Hon’ble

Chief Minister, Odisha among PMEC, Berhampur, M/s Gram Taranga Employability Training

Services Pvt. Ltd, Dassault Systems and BPUT, Odisha to setup a CoE at PMEC,

Berhampur on Aerospace, Automotive, Defence & Allied Industries.

A 3DEXPEIENCE Hub was setup in the Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur

with partnership with M/s Gram Taranga Employability Training Services Pvt. Ltd. as a

training partner, Dassault Systems as a software partner and required fund was provided

by Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha. The CoE is named as Virtual Engineering

Design and Innovation Centre (VEDIC). Dr. Balaji Kumar Choudhury, Assistant Professor in

Mechanical Engineering, is the professor in charge of the CoE. The hub consists of a

Classroom, 3DExperience Computer Lab, ARVR Lab with HTC VIVE and 3D projector,

ideation centre for discussion of the projects, Maker’s Lab having a 3D printer to print the 3d

models.

The COE will have dedicated training courses for various Aerospace, Automotive, Defence

and Allied industries across design, manufacturing / fabrication and maintenance, which is

provided to the B.Tech. students of Mechanical, Automobile, Production, Electrical and Civil

engineering. The Centre of Excellence follows a tiered approach and it is based on hub and

spoke model. This CoE at PMEC Berhampur will work as hub and other colleges under

BPUT will be the spoke for providing training to the engineering students of constituent and

affiliated colleges of BPUT, Odisha.
